Just a week after the Chicago Cubs claimed left-handed pitcher Ian Clarkin off waivers from the Chicago White Sox, the team on the south side claimed Clarkin off waivers to bring him back to their organization.
The Cubs' 40-man roster is back to 38.
The White Sox have claimed LHP Ian Clarkin off waivers from the Cubs, who claimed him off waivers from from the White Sox last week. Your move, Cubs. Roster back to 38.— Jordan Bastian (@MLBastian) November 26, 2018
Clarkin is a former first-round pick of the New York Yankees but was dealt to the White Sox in the Todd Frazier-David Robertson deal back in July 2017.
At three minor league levels last season, Clarkin made 25 appearances (12 starts) and posted a 4-5 record with a 4.76 ERA and 1.46 WHIP.
No matter the organization he's been a part of, the hope is the Clarkin will end up being a starter at the big-league level. However, once he gets his MLB opportunity, which could be as soon as 2019, expect him to start off his career in the bullpen, especially given he logged 13 games as a reliever last year in the minors.
