The first major upset of the college basketball season has gone down. The victim: the UNC Tar Heels. The No. 7 team in the nation went down in Las Vegas tonight, losing to the Texas Longhorns.

The game was close at the half, with Texas leading by one, 43-42. But, a big run at the start of the second half saw the Longhorns take a big lead, one that the Heels would be chipping away at for the remainder of the game. Unfortunately for Tar Heels fans, it wasn't enough, as UT came away with the 92-89 W.

The Longhorns got a large part of their production from senior guard Kerwin Roach, who finished with 32 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds.

The Tar Heels got some scoring from freshman guard Coby White and graduate forward Cameron Johnson, but didn't spread the ball around enough, as their assist numbers were frankly pedestrian.

This is a huge early boost to Texas' tournament hopes this season, as they started the campaign unranked. As for the Tar Heels, this is a rough loss. Roy Williams and company are going to have to take a long look at themselves after this one.
