Thanksgiving Day will provide the NFL with three rivalry games to feast on while eating some turkey. One of those is a crucial NFC East matchup between the Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys.
The Redskins had a rough day this past Sunday. On top of losing to the Houston Texans, they lost starting quarterback Alex Smith for the season due to a Joe Theismann-like injury. Now, they will rely heavily on mainstay Colt McCoy, with Mark Sanchez as the backup.
Let's not forget that McCoy defeated the Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day four years ago, but that was before Dallas had the likes of Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, and Demarcus Lawrence on the roster.
Dallas will look to feast on the opportunity, as they have a young defense that ranks as the eighth-best in the league in terms of yards surrendered per game (331.1). As for Elliott, he will have his hands full with a Redskins run defense that has allowed an average of 95.7 yards on the ground per game (sixth-best in NFL). However, Dallas will have it's full offensive line intact for Thursday, which will certainly help Elliott.
Just a couple of weeks ago, many were calling for the Cowboys to blow up the team. Now, they are one game behind the Redskins for first place, and look to have the advantage of winning the division.
TV, Live Stream, Radio Info
The game will air on FOX this Thursday at 4:30 p.m. ET live from AT&T Stadium. In case you find yourself stuck in Thanksgiving Day traffic, you can listen to the game on The Team 980 and WMAL 105.9FM/630AM in the Washington D.C. area, and 105.3 The FAN in Dallas.
With the Redskins dealing with an unthinkable injury to their starting QB in Smith, the Cowboys are sure to be favored against DC. Dallas is rolling, and we see no reason for that to change on Turkey Day.
