On Monday night, the NBA world looked on in horror as Caris LeVert suffered what looked to be a gruesome injury to his ankle. It immediately reminded fans of the grotesque injury suffered by Gordon Hayward in the opening game of the season last year, and it appeared as if LeVert would be in line for some serious recovery time.

According to Shams Charania, LeVert has actually avoided a terrible injury and will not even require surgery to repair his ankle and foot. Charania suggests that there is a real chance that LeVert plays again this season, a huge blessing for the Nets organization.

The injury was a dislocated right foot but it could have been far worse for the 24-year-old. The Nets were at risk of losing a cornerstone of their franchise.

LeVert was in the midst of a breakout season, averaging a career high 18.4 points per game. While he will be sidelined for an extended period of time, LeVert was extremely lucky to have avoided a much worse injury.
