The sports world in the Northwest just lost an iconic man.

The Seattle Seahawks and Portland Trail Blazers are in our thoughts today. Paul Allen, who co-founded Microsoft and owned both franchises, has passed away at the age of 65.

He died from complications of non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

This is incredibly sad news.

Earlier this month, Allen released a statement on Twitter that his cancer had returned. He was treated for it in 2009 and it looked like he had successfully beaten it. It came back in a strong way and took his life.

Allen has owned the Seattle Seahawks since 1996 and the Trail Blazers since 1988.

He has brought excellence to the sports world for over 30 years, touching the lives of players, staff, and personnel during that time. He also won a Super Bowl with Seattle in 2014.

Allen will truly be missed.
