Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is one of the best young talents in the game, and the fact he's playing in the Arizona Fall League is a treat to all of us baseball fans who can't claim to root for a team in MLB's final quartet. But on Wednesday night, Vlad Jr. was part of a terrifying moment, in which a line drive off his bat struck D'Backs pitcher Tyler Mark in the head. The video is graphic.
Thankfully, Mark was reportedly able to walk off under his own power, but will surely have some post-traumatic stress from this event. It's a part of the uglier side of baseball, as pitchers have no way to see this coming. Mark's momentum carried him off the mound towards the first-base side, which is appropriate should he need to cover the bag.
Oh god no. Vladdy just lined a ball square off of pitcher Tyler Mark’s head. This is awful.— Josh Norris (@jnorris427) October 11, 2018
We can only hope Mark is okay. Surely, he's in our thoughts.
