Only two weeks too late!
Ahead of their Week 3 matchup in Houston, against some of the fiercest pass rushers in the AFC, the Giants have realized that, if they want Eli Manning to live, they have to eliminate Ereck Flowers from their offensive line.
There's no way of knowing if RT Chad Wheeler will make a better impact in a starting role than the disastrous Flowers, but it can't hurt to find out.
Big move for Big Blue: The #Giants spent the week preparing RT Chad Wheeler to play significant snaps and sources now say that he’s expected to start. That means former first-round pick Ereck Flowers would be headed to the bench.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) September 23, 2018
(Cut to it inexplicably hurting to find out).
Flowers, the Giants' ninth overall pick in 2015 (WHY?), has barely shown an aptitude for blocking at this level ever since being selected so high. In fact, it's occasionally been unclear what moves he's even making to fix things, seemingly unaware of what type of pass rusher Calais Campbell was until after the G-Men played the Jaguars, insinuating he'd never watched tape in the postgame press conference.
Whatever Wheeler brings to the table will be a bonus for Giants fans. Ideally, he's not a disaster. That's...the ideal.
