As the Tennessee Titans play host to the Houston Texans, they may find themselves without their star quarterback.
While Marcus Mariota is expected to play, it has been reported that after suffering a pinched nerve in his elbow he has still not regained complete feeling in his fingers.
#Titans QB Marcus Mariota, who is dealing with a pinched nerve in his elbow, still has not regained complete feeling in his fingers, sources say. He’s going to try to play, but there is no telling how he’ll respond. That’s why Blaine Gabbert is expected to rotate in.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) September 16, 2018
If Mariota is unable to play, Blaine Gabbert will step in and try to defeat the division rivals and protect home field.
Hard to imagine being an NFL quarterback and not being able to feel your fingers. Fingers would seemingly be the most important thing for a quarterback to have full control over.
A Titans’ source said Saturday night that the team still had not decided who would start at quarterback Sunday vs Texans, Marcus Mariota or Blaine Gabbert.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) September 16, 2018
Another source said it is “likely a game-time decision, but (Mariota) still isn’t able to grip the ball normally.”
New head coach, Mike Vrabel, has a decision to make, but we hope he veers on the side of caution. Why overuse a man whose job it is to throw a football when he can't feel his fingers? A two quarterback strategy is unusual because it takes away a quarterback's rhythm.
It's Gabbert time in Tennessee! Embrace it coach, and wait until your star can feel his hands instead of risking another setback.
