You had it, Purdue. You had the game won. On third and eight with 4:51 remaining and a 19-17 lead, linebacker Cornel Jones sacked Eastern Michigan quarterback Tyler Wiegers in his own territory to make it fourth down. But...Jones committed a boneheaded personal foul and the drive continued. This is the second week in a row this has happened to the Boilermakers.
Here's a dumb thing to do when you're up by two. pic.twitter.com/5QIHZgji5L— Timothy Burke (@bubbaprog) September 8, 2018
Eastern Michigan continued to drive the ball down field, and with four seconds left, EMU Eagles kicker Chad Ryland blasted a 25-yard field goal to win the game as time expired.
You can never really guarantee a victory with over four minutes remaining in a tightly contested game, but Purdue could've gotten the ball back and ran the clock down to seal the victory.
The Boilermakers fall to 0-2 on the season.
