They'll still have to fight it out with the nation's basketball blue bloods in order to secure his services. But for now, fans of the Kentucky Wildcats have one more reason to be excited about their team's first open practice of the upcoming preseason.
Five-star high school big man Matthew Hurt is coming to hang out at Big Blue Madness.
Senior @HurtMatthew will be attending UK’s Big Blue Madness according to a source. In the long, storied history of UK basketball, no Minnesota prepster has ever signed with UK. Stanford transfer Reid Travis will be first player from Minnesota to play at UK this year. #BBN https://t.co/Dj6geWpgv7— Oscar Combs (@wildcatnews) September 4, 2018
The event, which always attracts a handful of the country's best and brightest prospects, is set to take place on the evening of Friday, October 21st.
Hurt, a 6-9 power forward, is ranked as the No. 1 high school player in the state of Minnesota per 247Sports, and the sixth-best in the nation. Kansas, North Carolina, and arch-rivals Louisville are among the programs hoping to fend off the Cats for Hurt's signature.
247's "Crystal Ball" gives the Jayhawks the best odds to land Hurt's commitment. But Big Blue Madness is an institution unto itself, and could produce some pleasant surprises for the fans in Lexington.
