As the MLB's annual Player's Weekend approaches, it's time to get some nicknames and patches on jerseys once again. Most players like to put fun names or plays on words on their backs for the weekend, but Baltimore Orioles' outfielder Adam Jones is taking his thank-you patch seriously.
Jones will be honoring San Diego Padres Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn with his Players' Weekend jersey.
His thank-you patch will be dedicated to Tony Gwynn and his family in honor of his legendary career, but also thanking the family for the help and inspiraion they have offered Jones thus far in his life.
Jones, from San Diego, idolized Tony Gwynn growing up. Definitely nice to see Gwynn's contributions to baseball continue to be appreciated. The 15-time All-Star and eight-time NL batting champion had his life cut short in 2014 after complications with cancer.
Players Weekend is a fun time for all involved. But Jones is setting the perfect example by bringing some extra significance to the proceedings.
Maybe you’ve customized a jersey before, but never a #PlayersWeekend jersey! For 10 lucky followers who RT, we’re gonna hook you up.— MLB (@MLB) August 22, 2018

Be sure to be on the lookout for some great nicknames this weekend (especially in the case of Brad Boxberger). But be sure to remember to tip your cap to AJ.
