On Wednesday, Coach Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats launched themselves into the consensus No. 2 spot in the 2019 recruiting rankings with the commitment of five-star forward Kahlil Whitney.
Whitney is the No. 19 overall prospect in the class according to 247Sports, and the No. 5 player at the small forward position. His commitment comes at a perfect time, after the whirlwind of confusion following D.J. Jeffries' de-commitment.
Whitney chose the Wildcats over Oregon, Illinois, and Georgetown, and he is the second five-star prospect in their 2019 class so far.

Whitney's athleticism and intensity already distinguish him as a Kentucky-bred basketball player. He has good size and can hit the boards, but more importantly, he has a killer jump-shot, which will make him stand out at the NCAA level.
If this highlight video doesn't get you pumped about this young star, then you shouldn't consider yourself a Kentucky basketball fan.
Last year, Whitney led his high school team to a 24-0 undefeated season, and when he hits the court in 2019 with Tyrese Maxey and Dontaie Allen, their squad may be as dynamic as 2018's.
The Kentucky Wildcats are now just under top ranked USC, who has secured two five-star and two four-star prospects.
The 2019 race for top-ranked recruits is heating up, and Big Blue Nation just scored big with Kahlil Whitney.
