Seattle's newest member of the roster is already making a trip to the Disabled List.

During Wednesday's game against the Texas Rangers, reliever Sam Tuivailala strained his Achillies in the sixth inning. Tuivailala, 25, had to be helped off the field.

Seattle Times reporter Ryan Divish has since reported that Tuivailala was seen in a walking boot and crutches after the game. Terrible news for the hard-throwing righty.

Tuivailala will be heading back to Seattle to see how long he will be out for.  Obviously, this is a disaster of news for Seattle.

This team has now fallen behind Oakland for the second Wild Card spot. Losing a key member of the bullpen is a huge blow.

Tuivailala was acquired from the Cardinals before this past trade deadline in exchange for minor league pitcher Seth Elledge. In only five appearances in Seattle, Tuivailala has posted a 1.93 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP.

In what looked to be a solid deal for the Mariners to improve their bullpen, the move now brings them back to square one. With Tuivailala now headed to the DL, guys like Zach Duke, Nick Vincent and Adam Warren will need to step their game up.

Seattle is is currently 65-50 which is 3rd in the AL West. They are only 2.5 games behind the Oakland A's (67-45) for the second Wild Card slot, but they've lost 18 of their last 27 games.
