It's been a busy day of breaking news out of Pats camp. And, of course, as everyone expected, it's been revolved around a depth wideout in Malcolm Mitchell.
First, it was reported the Pats were actively looking for trade partners for the young wide receiver.
Now, perhaps we know why New England is so excited to try and get him off its roster. Per a report, Mitchell underwent a knee procedure today and his 2018 campaign is in jeopardy. Yikes.
Malcolm Mitchell isn't expected to be on the field to start training camp. He had a procedure on his knee today, according to a source. His season looks to be in jeopardy.— Mark Daniels (@MarkDanielsPJ) July 23, 2018
This is a bummer for the 25-year-old Georgia native.
Remember, Mitchell was placed on Injured Reserve last September with a knee injury, forcing him to miss the entire campaign. He was rehabbing to try and make his way back this summer/fall, but he's suffered a setback.
With Julian Edelman suspended the first four games of the season, fans were hopeful Mitchell would be able to step in and become a consistent target for Tom Brady.

When on the field and healthy, Mitchell has proven to be a difference maker. In 2016, he finished his rookie campaign with 32 receptions, 401 yards and four touchdowns.
Now, with his season in jeopardy, the same could be said for his career in New England.
