Following his suicide, many are wondering why Billy Knight, 39, a former basketball star at UCLA, would have taken his own life. In the days since, chilling answers are beginning to emerge.
On June 14, Knight was arrested in Phoenix, AZ for child sex abuse on a victim who was reportedly just nine years old. Knight was facing multiple counts of sexual conduct with a minor, sexual abuse and molestation of a child, according to TMZ.
Knight played for the UCLA Bruins from 1998-2002, averaging 14.5 points per game in his senior year. Knight most recently worked for the Northern Arizona Suns, the Phoenix Suns' G-League affiliate, as a basketball operations assistant during the 2016-17 season.
Before taking his life, Knight released a farewell video detailing why he couldn't go on. In the video--which is titled "I am Sorry Lord"--Knight stated that his time on Earth was up and that he couldn't continue on given how things were going.
"I feel like I didn't belong here on Earth," Knight said. "I will take my chances. I will be in Heaven or Hell."
RIP former UCLA and Westchester High standout Billy Knight. For the love of goodness sake, people. If you are feeling desperate, reach out to someone...anyone...even a text to someone, before it is too late. pic.twitter.com/MWVXPOxPOz— Tony Siracusa (@TonyBruin) July 10, 2018
Regardless of how you look at it, theres no denying that this whole situation is hideous. One can only hope that those involved, from Knight's loved ones to his alleged victim, find peace somehow.
