The Phillies are tied for first place in the NL East with the Atlanta Braves, something that was unexpected for either team going into the season. Now, they are looking to improve their roster come the second half of the season to make their playoff push.
To do so they are looking to acquire a big name from the Baltimore Orioles, but it is not Manny Machado. They have shown interest in Orioles reliever Zach Britton.

Britton has given up six earned runs in 12.2 innings this season after rupturing his Achilles tendon in the offseason, but they all came in just two disastrous appearances in June. Last season however, Britton had a 2.89 ERA over 38 games, and was out for part of the season due to a forearm injury. The last time Britton was healthy for a whole season was when he finished fourth in Cy Young voting with a 0.54 ERA and a MLB-best 47 saves.
This move would provide some help to a Phillies bullpen that has been just average when it comes to bullpen ERA and batting average against.
If the Phillies are able to pull this deal off, it would not only help them, but keep Britton out of the hands of countless other teams that they could very well end up facing in the playoffs.
