The Cleveland Browns are coming off a terrible two-season stretch under head coach Hue Jackson. Their 1-31 record the last two years forced Jackson jump into Lake Erie. Despite that, however, every season brings new hope, and HBO's Hard Knocks will stress that as much as they can this year.
After all, this is the worst team they have ever had to cover.
Some see the series as distracting, especially for a team that is already so dysfunctional and having to adjust to a new quarterback, a highly heralded rookie backup, etc.
Others think that the series will help the Browns' fanbase grow, especially because they are perfect fodder for a Cinderella story.
HBO does such a great job with the series that fans are sure to feel more sympathy for Cleveland as the season gets under way.
We need Hard Knocks, but for the Lakers next season.— Mark Kim (@MarkJKim_) July 2, 2018
Furthermore, storylines like Tyrod Taylor wanting to take down his backstabbing former Bills, or Baker Mayfield fighting to prove his worth are sure to be engaging and fun.
If the trailer is any indication, this year's series will be as good as ever, despite the Browns being so bad.
And who knows? Maybe the Browns will really improve this year, and they'll bring a bunch of new fans with them into 2019.
