Could a deal be made by the end of the month?

Apparently, being 3.5 games back has prompted the Yankees front office to speed things up in their pursuit of one of the best hitters in the game.

Reports have surfaced that the Baltimore Orioles have a strong offer on the table for infielder Manny Machado from the boys in the Bronx.

Machado has always been seen as an attractive trade target, but with free agency coming up soon, Machado's value has seemingly decreased with each passing day. That is no fault of his own, though. Machado is hitting .314 with 23 home runs, 63 RBI, and a .959 OPS in 91 games.

While his defense has suffered since moving to shortstop, any team that acquires Machado could move him back to third base. However, the Yankees do not have a need at either position.

Didi Gregorius is not going anywhere. The Yankees shortstop is hitting .261 with 15 home runs, 48 RBI, and 10 stolen bases while playing great defense. Could 3B Miguel Andujar be on his way out in a trade?

Remember, New York is still searching for a starting pitcher.

With that being said, the Yankees might be one of the only teams in baseball with enough young talent to pry Machado away from the Orioles. However, a prime target for Baltimore, lefty pitcher Justus Sheffield, isn't expected to be included in talks.

The Orioles moving Machado in the division remains unlikely, but the Yankees might just have what it takes to get a deal done.
