The Phoenix Suns are this year's sleeper free agency team. They are off to a good start, selecting Deandre Ayton with the first pick in the draft. Recently they've made some smaller moves that could lead to a much bigger one.
The Sun reportedly will not bring back Elfrid Payton
Both players had decent seasons at best for the Suns, but with Brandon Knight and Deandre Ayton on the roster, their value has diminished.
This also opens up about $10M in cap space for the Suns, who can sign a good veteran to help the young team's growth. Don't forget that aside from Devin Booker, Ayton, and Knight, the Suns also have Josh Jackson, TJ Warren and Mikal Bridges. Oh, and they drafted Elie Okobo too.
Here’s highlights from 32 days ago when Elie Okobo dropped 44 points and 4 assists in a PLAYOFF game. Oh, and he shot 8/11 from 3 and 12/12 from the FT line.— Kris Hanson (@krishansonRCF) June 24, 2018
The best part is, he’s now on the Phoenix Suns. pic.twitter.com/AKeYnkdLJ8
One great free agent -- if willing to go to Phoenix -- could turn this team into a legitimate threat in the Western Conference.
There are a lot of big names on the market this offseason. Don't be surprised if the Suns come out aggressive next week.
