Let the madness of the NBA offseason commence.

We're expected to see sparks fly just like they did last year, and we already have our first Woj Bomb of 2018 involving a disgruntled big man who is on the wrong side of one superstar, and a coach's son. You can't write drama better than that.

The Clippers have agreed to trade Austin Rivers, just days after he exercised his player option, to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Marcin Gortat.

Any move is surprising to an extent, but the writing was written on the wall for both of these players.

First, Gortat's departure has been assumed for months now. The team tried to trade him last season after he butted heads with superstar John Wall. It doesn't matter that these two met to fix things. You know Wall wasn't getting traded out of Washington, so Gortat's time in D.C. was over.

As for Rivers, it's simply about having too many chefs in the same kitchen. Milos Teodosic has solidified a spot on this team, Patrick Beverly will be back from injury, Lou Williams just won Sixth Man of the Year, and the team just drafted the backcourt of the future in Jerome Robinson and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

There was just no room for him despite putting up career-highs this season.

Rivers will now settle into a role as the scorer off the bench in Washington, while Gortat will be the first big man off the bench for LA.
