The 2018 World Cup has created plenty of great moments through one round that fans around the nation will remember forever. Getty Images has provided countless photos of the action.
However, they got into a bit of trouble on Monday, after publishing a gallery entitled, "World Cup 2018: The Sexiest Fans." The tagline for the collection read, "Talk about a knockout round."
There was so much public outrage, that Getty deleted the photos and issued the following apology.
"Earlier, we published a piece, 'World Cup 2018: The Sexiest Fans,' that did not meet our editorial standards. We regret the error and have removed the piece," said Getty through an issued statement. "There are many interesting stories to tell about the World Cup and we acknowledge this was not one of them."
The publication of said gallery came as a shock to many, as the photojournalism site notably covers serious news stories, as well as various sporting events.
Nobody expected a gallery like this to come from the reputable source, and Getty acted quickly in removing it from their site.
Getty Images dipped their toe into this style of photography, but it's safe to say they won't do so in the near future.
