The New York Islanders were never planning on sitting quietly during the offseason. They knew what had to be done, and revamped their front office and coaching personnel.

With fresh faced at President of Hockey Operations, General Manager, and Head Coach, the Islanders can now turn their attention to re-signing superstar center and face of the franchise, John Tavares.

The Islanders seems to have all but locked Tavares into re-signing, however the final decision still lies with him and his hunt for the Stanley Cup.

New York kicked off their offseason by firing both their general manager and head coach after a disappointing end to their 2017-18 season. They owned one of the most potent offenses in the league, led by Calder winner, Mathew Barzal, and Tavares. However, their goaltending and defense were abysmal and inevitably led to their downfall.

With Barry Trotz and Lou Lamoriello now leading the way, the Islanders are turning a new leaf and seem to have convinced Tavares that they're all in for getting him a Stanley Cup. Tavares has spent his last nine seasons with the Islanders but has made the Playoffs just three times, never advancing past the Second Round. If there's any coach in the NHL that understands overcoming Playoff disappointment, it's Barry Trotz.

With the new arena coming into fruition, there's plenty to be excited about for Tavares, yet they still need to build a winning roster around their captain.

Tavares is already pleased with the acquisition of Lou Lamoriello and has been in daily contract talks with the Islanders, yet they still haven't come to an agreement. With the new arena, head coach, and general manager, the Islanders are doing everything in their power to prove that they want to win with Tavares in orange and blue.

All signs are pointing towards Tavares re-signing and staying an Islander for the rest of his career.
