How far has this former NFL Pro Bowler fallen?
Last Friday we reported that Kellen Winslow Jr. was arrested on burglary charges. Then just two days ago it was revealed that Winslow's charges were far more serious than anybody could have imagined. He faces accusations of kidnapping and rape which could put him away for life without parole.
Winslow has now reportedly hired top lawyer Harvey Steinberg to defend him. Steinberg has a long history of successfully defending NFL players.
Kellen Winslow Jr, who is facing a possible life sentence without parole if convicted, will be represented by Harvey Steinberg, who helped get not guilty verdicts or dismissal of criminal charges for players such as Bill Romanowski, Perrish Cox, Brandon Marshall, Rolando McClain.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) June 16, 2018
Some think his case is hopeless.
There's DNA evidence and a half dozen witnesses with multiple victims. The only way he doesn't spend the rest of his life in prison is multiple monumental mistakes by the DA.— JimmyToons (@JimmySportToons) June 16, 2018
And many in the court of public opinion have already judged him to be guilty.
I hope he gets to spend his remaining days in prison for what he has done!— LGintheValley (@LGintheValley) June 16, 2018
The 34-year-old former tight end was drafted by the Browns with the sixth overall pick out of Miami in 2004 and made the Pro Bowl in 2007. He was never nearly as good on the field as his father, Chargers legend Kellen Winslow Sr., but he recorded a solid career with the Browns, Bucs, Patriots, and Jets before retiring in 2013.
These criminal charges have further illustrated a man losing his grip on reality.
