Caps fans are on top of the world right now. The day they thought would never come has finally arrived.
Ovechkin and co. have finally returned to the District of Columbia as Stanley Cup Champions. One fan perfectly summed up this moment with a sign.
A weight has been lifted off of Washington. Their first Stanley Cup in franchise history and the city's first championship since 1992. D.C. sports fans probably thought this day would never come.
Coming into this season it certainly seemed that way. The Capitals had gone all in and lost, once again, to the Penguins the year before.
The Nationals, despite having Max Scherzer and Bryce Harper, haven't sniffed a World Series. The Wizards were stuck in the NBA purgatory of being great in the regular season but never being able to get over the playoff hump. The Redskins, well... you know, weren't very good either of late.
Alex Ovechkin doesn't need a float for the Capitals parade. He's been floating on Cloud Nine since he won the Cup. pic.twitter.com/bVJ7K3bqYW— Brad Galli (@BradGalli) June 12, 2018
Now D.C. has a ring to wear on its finger. The Capitals were the best team in hockey this year and nobody can take that away from them. So go crazy Washington, you earned this.
