Josh Jackson, quarterback for Virginia Tech, has been suspended indefinitely due to an academic issue, per Mike McDaniel.

In his first season with the Hokies, Jackson threw for 2,743 yards and 19 touchdowns while putting up a 138.3 passer rating, third best in the ACC. The team finished second in the conference's Coastal Division behind Miami and finished No. 24 in the AP Poll.

If Jackson is out for any extended period of time, it would be a huge blow for Virginia Tech, especially at a time when things are starting to turn around for the program. If they want to have any chance of getting to the ACC Championship game, they'll need Jackson to stay on the field. Otherwise, the 2018 season could be a lost cause.

Should the suspension carry into the regular season, the starting job could be up for grabs.

The Hokies begin their season with a primetime matchup at Florida State. They host Notre Dame, Miami and in-state rival Virginia later in the season.
