With their first pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, the Chicago Cubs selected Nico Hoerner, a shortstop from Stanford University.

Although Hoerner may not hit for the fences every time he steps up to the plate, he certainly has the ability to hit for a high average and steal bases with his speed. Plays like these will certainly excite Cubs fans:

Cubs fans will hope to see more plays like that in the future. Overall though, Hoerner's speed should prove to be very useful in the big leagues whether it be stealing bases or making plays in the field.

Chicago's farm system isn't nearly as stacked as it used to be, especially after much of their young talent made their way to the bigs. The addition of Hoerner should replenish the future of the middle of the infield.

And hey, he is from Stanford so he's probably a smart guy too.
