We're not here to stir up controversy...oh who are we kidding? We live for this.

As the Caps and Lightning battle it out in Game 6, Dan Girardi might have to take some time to schedule a hearing with NHL Player Safety. In the middle of this tightly-contest affair, Girardi drilled Alex Ovechkin in open ice. Only problem? The puck was nowhere near the spot of the hit.

The NHL is likely to just pass this off as two players running into each other, wrong place wrong time mumbo jumbo, but let us not forget that they laid the hammer down on Tom Wilson in the Caps-Pens series despite no penalty being called on the play.

This hit isn't nearly a vicious, but still warrants some explanation from the league office, even if the Caps are eliminated on Monday night. Not a great look for Girardi either way.
