They really won't regret it.
Heading into the NFL Draft, it seemed like the only running back that would be taken ahead of LSU's Derrius Guice was all-world superstar Saquon Barkley. That's why it was so surprising to see Guice take a massive tumble yesterday.
The Redskins finally ended his free fall in Round 2. And they'll be glad they didn't buy into the smokescreen.
Guice may have fallen all they way down to the end of the second round, but he's landed in a great spot with Washington. The Redskins desperately needed a lead running back, and they were willingly to overlook Guice's character concerns.
Why is #LSU RB Derrius Guice sliding? Sources describe him as immature, high-maintenance. His visits did not go well. Some incidents in college teams found out about that were not reported.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 28, 2018
Apparently, Guice wasn't very impressive in his pre-draft visits, and there was even a report that he got involved in a shouting match when he visited the Eagles. The Redskins decided to overlook those personality issues in an effort to get some value in their backfield.
We all know Guice is capable of being a starter in this league, and pairing him with Chris Thompson should be the answer in Washington's backfield. Hopefully falling down the board has humbled him, and he won't be an issue in the future.
It's all worth it if he produces wins on the field.
