It's always heartbreaking when a young man or young woman is taken from us too soon. For the Notre Dame football family, the program is mourning the loss of former defensive lineman Kona Schwenke.
On Sunday, news broke the former Fighting Irish star unexpectedly passed away. No one saw this one coming.
Details on his passing are yet to be made public. He was just 25.
Really sad to hear about the passing of former Notre Dame DL Kona Schwenke. He was way too young.— Bryan Driskell (@BGI_CoachD) April 22, 2018
A beast in the trenches, Schwenke was a star for the Irish from 2010-2013. In 2012, he helped Notre Dame reach the National Championship game.
After his brilliant career with the Irish, in which he appeared in 31 games, Schwenke went on to sign with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2014. Though he never appeared in a regular season game, he suited up for the Chiefs, Seahawks, Patriots, Jets and Raiders (preseason/practice squad). He was among the former Pats to play in the Spring League this year.
Obviously, this is a difficult time for everyone close to the young man. Our hearts and thoughts go out to the Schwenke family.
