Butch Jones was fired from his job as the head coach of the University of Tennessee's football team in November after a rough stint with the team.
Recently, Jones has been rumored to have a position as an analyst with Nick Saban at the University of Alabama. It's all been but been confirmed Jones is with the Tide.
However, Nick Saban has yet to acknowledge that Jones has been hired.
Nick Saban could not confirm that Butch Jones has joined #Alabama’s staff as an analyst. It sounds like there is some paperwork and other things to complete. He reiterated the team in “interested” in Jones.— Chandler Rome (@Chandler_Rome) March 7, 2018
Jones had a disappointing 4.5 seasons with the Volunteers, posting a 34-27 record and two missed bowl game appearances with the team.
Reports about Jones joining Alabama's staff began surfacing over a week ago and the former Tennessee coach was spotted at the Crimson Tide's pro day in Alabama gear, so a deal is likely to get done soon.
Jones will look to revitalize his coaching career in a role with the Crimson Tide and Saban appears ready to give him that opportunity -- even if it takes time to get the paperwork sorted out.
