The NFL Combine can either really help a draft prospect or hurt them big time.
For Saquon Barkley, his Combine performance has increased his draft stock even more (if that's possible).
So far for Saquon Barkley:— NFL Update (@MySportsUpdate) March 2, 2018
- 41" vertical
- Bench Pressed 225 lbs. 29 times
- Runs an unofficial 4.41 and 4.42 on his 40
For the vertical leap, Barkley jumped 41". So he has hops. He bench pressed 225 pounds, 29 times. So, he's strong enough to take hits in the NFL, which is very important for a running back. He also ran an unofficial 40-yard dash time of 4.41 and 4.42. So, he's pretty fast too.
Strength and speed are two of the most important attributes for an NFL running back to have. Guess what, Barkley has them, and he showcased this during the Combine.
Look out, with that vertical leap, he might embarrass a safety trying to tackle him low and jump right over them.
Oh boy. Penn St RB Saquon Barkley put on a show on the bench. 29 reps at 225. I think he’ll do OK in the draft.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 1, 2018
Where Barkley will get drafted is very interesting to keep an eye on. It looks like he could emerge as the No 1 overall pick in the draft, as the Cleveland Browns could use a running back. They also could use a quarterback, which they may then use with the fourth pick.
The New York Giants also are keeping a close eye on Barkley with the No. 2 pick in the draft.
One thing is certain, this guy has to be going top five in the draft. The only thing that would hold him back is that several of the teams in the top six need quarterbacks. Still, he's a talent no team can pass up on at this point.
