Another chunk of the free agent market broke off Tuesday with the Cleveland Indians agreeing to a minor league deal with Mike Napoli.

Of course the Indians already have a first baseman and a DH, so the move was a little surprising even though Napoli has played a role for the Indians in the past.

To quell any possible issues, Francona met with presumed designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion and first baseman Yonder Alonso to make sure they knew Napoli was not here to take their job.

Francona also mentioned how the organization thinks highly of Napoli and wants to give him a chance to possibly prove himself to other teams during spring training.

More than anything, Napoli will serve as an important presence during spring training and see if he still has something left in the tank to possibly make the final roster, whether that's with the Indians or someone else.
