We're starting to see some movement with MLB free agency.
The Washington Nationals are continuing to revamp their bullpen and signed veteran reliever Joaquin Benoit. It's a one-year, $1 million major league deal.
The Nationals have indeed signed Joaquin Benoit, pending physical. It's a major league deal. 1 year, $1 million. @jcrasnick had it first.— Jorge Castillo (@jorgecastillo) February 19, 2018
Washington needs another right-handed presence in the pen, especially with Koda Glover still battling shoulder soreness.
The 40-year-old reliever signed with the Philadelphia Phillies last winter and was dealt at the trade deadline to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In 52 appearances between the two clubs last season, Benoit posted a 4.65 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 50.1 innings.
Benoit had his worst season since 2008 when he was a member of the Texas Rangers. He's certainly on the decline, but he has a resume that shows he's a reliable arm out of the bullpen.
