Tragedy has struck the basketball world.

We've experienced some heartbreak this year when Celtics legend JoJo White passed away and Texas guard Andrew Jones was diagnosed with leukemia. Now, the NBA world is dealing with a tragic death.

Former NBA player Rasual Butler and his wife were pronounced dead after a fatal car crash early Wednesday morning.

Reports have said that Butler lost control of his Range Rover around 2 a.m. Wednesday, struck a parking meter, and slammed into a wall. Officers believe that Butler was speeding before the crash.

Butler was drafted by the Miami Heat in 2002, and went on to have a long productive career in the NBA, spending time with the Hornets, Clippers, Bulls, Raptors, Pacers, Wizards, and Spurs. He also participated in Ice Cube's BIG3 League.

Butler's wife, Leah LaBelle, is an R&B singer, who participated in season three of American Idol. She was signed to Epic Records.

You never want to hear news like this, and condolences go out to the families of Butler and LaBelle.

Rest in peace.
