Yu Darvish has been linked to a different team every day as his representation tries to spark a bidding war that just might not be there.
If there was real interest in paying Darvish upwards of $150 million, then he would be signed already. But with so many teams being curiously cheap this offseason, the money just isn't there for the free agent starter.
Due to a plummeting price tag, it seems like there is a surprise team is in on Darvish-- the Milwaukee Brewers have made him a formal offer:
Source confirms: #Brewers have made offer to Darvish. First reported: Yahoo Japan.— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) January 22, 2018
The Brewers are coming off a season in which they spent a majority of the year in first place in the NL Central before conceding the division to the Cubs and narrowly missing the playoffs. With so much young talent, the best days are ahead for the Brew Crew, and Darvish could be a big part of that over the next few seasons.
Darvish would immediately become the ace of the staff, and could lead Milwaukee to the playoffs for the first time since 2011. The prospect of adding an arm like his is one that should have all Brewers fans hyped.
If this free agency period has taught us anything, it's that you must take every Darvish rumor with a grain of salt. Still, the thought of him hurling it in Milwaukee is an exciting one.
