This could be a total game-changer.

The Chicago Cubs are approaching a humongous decision. As their local television deals near an end, the team's business managers have to decide who gets broadcast rights going forward.

However, it sounds like the Cubs are thinking about going in an entirely different direction. According to the team's president of business operations, the Cubs are "80 percent" leaning towards launching their very own network.

This could be a blockbuster moment in the MLB, and could motivate other teams to make similar decisions.

A few other teams already have their own networks, including the Yankees with the YES Network and the Mets with SportsNet New York, in which they own a majority stake.

If the Cubs can become another viable example of creating and managing your own network, we could see a myriad of teams in big markets launch similar operations in the future.
