The time we've been waiting for has finally arrived.

All season, Alex Smith had a countdown glued to his chest. No matter how well he played or how far he could have taken the Chiefs, his days in Kansas City were numbered. Now that the  Chiefs have been eliminated from the postseason following a heartbreaking collapse to the Titans, judgment day is here.

The Chiefs are reportedly taking calls for their star quarterback.

Turn out the lights, the party is officially over.

This comes as a shock to few as even Smith knew his time in Kansas City had an expiration date with the shadow of Patrick Mahomes growing larger and larger with every failure. Despite the fact that Smith had a career-high in touchdowns and yards and led the Chiefs to a second-straight AFC West title, it's simply not enough to add to the "pros" list when thinking about keeping him.

While Smith played at a borderline Pro Bowl level this season and led the league in QB rating, Kansas City feels like there is no better time to move on. A QB coming off a career year who also has a favorable contract is the most attractive bait you'll see this offseason. With so many teams in the market for a quarterback, there's never been a better time to move on.

Beside, Mahomes looks like a star in the making.

While they may have dominated at times this season, the truth of the matter is Kansas City is more than one piece away. Trading Smith for picks or young defensive players could help this team immensely.

He had one heck of a run, but Smith's days in Arrowhead are coming to a conclusion.
