With NCAA Bowl games coming up, there are some games circled on the calendar.

The Sugar Bowl between No. 4 Alabama and No. 1 Clemson. The Rose Bowl which features No. 2 Oklahoma and No. 3 Georgia. Even No. 5 Ohio State playing Sam Darnold and No. 8 USC in the Fiesta Bowl is must-see TV.

Yet with the great games also comes terrible games. Not necessarily terrible teams, but terrible names. The Birmingham Bowl falls under this category and the trophy for the winner is even more egregious.

This year the Birmingham Bowl has the No. 23 USF Bulls playing the Texas Tech Red Raiders. After their former head coach Willie Taggart moved to Florida State, the Bulls were blessed with head coach Charlie Strong. Strong formerly coached at Texas and although his tenure was underwhelming, Strong is a great offensive mind.

He was successful at Louisville, going 37-15 and making a bowl game in all four seasons. Having an experienced head coach going into the Bowl Game, USF is determined to bring home the trophy.

Even if it’s a naked sculpture. It’s not how the trophy looks, it’s bringing home the trophy that matters.
