Congratulations, Tennessee fans, you won.
According to multiple reports, the school will not hire Greg Schiano to be its next football coach after intense backlash from the Volunteer fanbase.
After Schiano's hiring was announced, protests erupted about Schiano's connection to Jerry Sandusky at Penn State.
Our Tennessee standards mean something, and a Greg Schiano hire would be anathema to all that our University and our community stand for. I sincerely hope that these rumors are not true, because even serious consideration would be unacceptable.— Eddie Smith (@RepEddieSmith) November 26, 2017
The Ohio State defensive coordinator was an assistant under Joe Paterno while Sandusky was at the university. Schiano has denied he helped cover up the issue. According to 247 Sports, Schiano and Tennessee were close to finalizing a deal before the news of the deal was leaked and the protests started.
Tennessee fans are better at getting rid of football coahes than they are at cheering Rocky Top at Neyland stadium.
They lobbied to get Butch Jones fired this season, and now lobbied to get rid of Schiano before the deal was official. Let's hope they like the next coach.
He may not be allowed in the state of Tennessee if they don't.
