Aaaaand the award for worst fans in Major League Baseball goes to.....
THE HOUSTON ASTROS!! Congrats, folks!
One night after the team was in hot water after Yuli Gurriel's decision to make a racist gesture and slur directed towards Dodgers starter Yu Darvish, it seems the fans are excited for the man who made such an awful decision when he likely knew the cameras would be on him.
Gurriel was suspended for the first five games of the 2018 season without pay as a result, and when he stepped into the batter's box in Game 4 of the World Series, the fans seemingly supported what he did.
He got a standing ovation.
"Racially insensitive gesture last night" Joe Buck said as a noticeable amount of Astros fans gave Gurriel a standing ovation. pic.twitter.com/b7BaSaODEa— Sung Min Kim (@sung_minkim) October 29, 2017
And here's a video to boot:
Of course, every fan didn't do this, but you could hear a significant roar when his name was announced, which was CERTAINLY louder than usual. Additionally, in the picture above the video, you clearly see fans standing up and applauding Gurriel, which is downright preposterous.
Whether you think Gurriel should have been suspended during the World Series or not, we can all agree that he SHOULD NOT be receiving a standing ovation for his actions in the dugout on Friday night.
