The Boston Red Sox and the recently-retired David Ortiz have come to agreement that ensures Ortiz will be with the Sox for life.
Boston!! I'm getting ready to do some GOOD...keep your eye out for a surprise announcement...u just might run into Papi today...— David Ortiz (@davidortiz) September 12, 2017
And "do some good" he did!
As the Sox press release that followed states:
"The Red Sox have come to a long-term agreement with 10-time All-Star and three-time World Series Champion David Ortiz, inking an unprecedented deal that should link him with the organization forever. In his new role, Ortiz will act as a mentor for current players, participate in recruitment efforts, make a variety of special appearances for the club, and work in a business development capacity for Fenway Sports Management and its partners."
In other words, Ortiz will be doing a little bit of everything other than literally stepping up to the plate.
Now the 10-time All-Star and three-time World Series champ will have a much bigger presence in Fenway than only his retired No. 34 hanging around.
Big Papi is back in Boston, and he's here to stay for the long haul.
