3 Players That Need to Step Up for Florida After Recent Suspensions

Florida is going to be short handed in their season opener against Michigan following the suspension of seven players. The players were suspended following a misuse of university funds and attempts to resell the improperly purchased items. The seven suspended players will leave a void in the tough matchup. Let's look at three players who need to step up and fill in the gaps.

3. Brandon Powell

One of Florida's best players, receiver Antonio Callaway, was suspended for the first game. That means it is up to other receivers like Brandon Powell to help make up for the production. Powell is not as explosive as Callaway, but if he can provide a consistent presence on the outside, Callaway's absence will not hurt as much.

2. Martez Ivey

Martez Ivey is the likely starter at left tackle, but he has to play well if he wants to keep his job. Folks were high on freshman Kadeem Telfort before his suspension, and this gives Ivey the chance to prove himself for at least one game. If he can handle Michigan's tough front seven, he may secure the job going forward.

1. Jabari Zuniga

With defensive end Keivonnis Davis suspended for the first game, Zuniga will have to build on his success from last season and prove that he deserves to start over Davis. Zuniga had five sacks last year as a freshman and should try to develop further in Davis' absence.
