After being linked to title contenders like the Warriors and Cavaliers, veteran shooting guard Jamal Crawford surprised the NBA by inking a deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Many people were shocked by the move and Crawford recently came out and explained why he chose not to be a typical ring chaser, and it's a pretty mature response.

"The Cavs, they’ve been there. Those guys know what it’s like to be in the Finals and win a championship. The Warriors, same deal. If I went there and let’s say we happen to win, what’s next? Sometimes it’s more gratifying to help teams go from one point to another point."

Instead of choosing to join a frontrunner, he went for an up-and-coming team in the Timberwolves.

They might not be at the level as some of the top teams, but they are starting to put the pieces together. Crawford now joins a young lineup with KAT, Andrew Wiggins and Jimmy Butler.

You have to respect this kind of move. At the age of 37, Crawford doesn't have a ton of years left in the league, but he is still a fantastic player. The three-time Sixth Man of the Year will be a much needed veteran presence.

With Tom Thibodeau at the helm, the Timberwolves are poised to make noise in Western Conference this season.

In the age of the super team, it's nice to see players going against the norm.
