July is the last month of the year without football. It is the last time when players and coaches can enjoy the summer weather before hopping back in the trenches for the next season.
Usually, when players are injured and require surgery, they do it at the beginning of the offseason in order to have the most time to recover before the next season, so July isn't all that of an ideal time to undergo srugery, especially foot surgery.
But don't tell that to Raiders defensive end Jihad Ward, who underwent foot surgery shortly after limping off the field during OTA's. That was exactly a month ago, and since the Raiders do not discuss offseason injuries, the sports world is just finding out about it now.
Don't worry, Raiders nation, Ward looks like he will be ready to go for minicamp in mid-August.
#Raiders DE Jihad Ward just had minor foot surgery, but sources say he'll be ready for camp by mid-August on a cautious timetable. No rush.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) July 6, 2017
The exact nature of the injury is unclear, but luckily it appears to be minor.
Ward appeared in all 16 games as a rookie last year, starting 13 of them while notching 30 tackles with a fumble recovery.
