Arsenal are reportedly set to offer something in the region of €15m for Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper, Rui Patricio, when the transfer window opens this summer.

Both David Ospina and Petr Cech have come under fire this season on a handful of occasions, most recently Ospina for his rather feeble attempt at a save against West Brom, leading to calls for the club to sign a new goalkeeper.

Having improved a lot in recent seasons, Patricio is now Portugal's number one goalkeeper and just might fit the bill for the North London club.

His current side, Sporting Lisbon, currently have him contracted until 2022. But after an impressive season, the club are anticipating offers from Europe's biggest names and might find it difficult to persuade the 29-year-old to stay due to their lack of a league trophy since 2002.

Arsenal's other goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny, is still out on loan with Roma - where he has been since 2015.

The Polish shot-stopper's contract with the Gunners is due to run out in the summer of 2018, much like a host of other Arsenal players, and the club may be resigned to letting him go for a small fee if they are unable to tie up a new contract before the end of the season.

Players entering the final six months of their contract are allowed to negotiate with other clubs and sign pre-contractual agreements, as per the Bosman rule. This would mean that all of these Arsenal stars could become available to sign for free from January 2018.

Of course, in real life, this is fairly rare. However, it does mean that Arsenal will need to sell those who do not sign new deals before the end of the season at a lower than expected fee to avoid the risk of losing them for free six months later.

Whilst there is a lot of uncertainty at the club at the moment, some kind of overhaul is expected in the summer due to the contract stand-offs between the club and several of it's players. Arsene Wenger could, of course, also be on his way out in the summer. But regardless of outgoings, Patricio is said to be on the shortlist for Arsenal signings this summer.
