New details have emerged in the death of Rashaan Salaam, and they unfortunately point toward an even darker reality.

Salaam, a former Heisman Trophy winner and Bears running back, was found dead outdoors in Boulder, Colorado. No official cause of death has been officially revealed at this point, but foul play was ruled out by the police.

The newest details come from Salaam's mother, who says police suspect her son's death was a suicide.

In an interview with USA Today Sports, Khalada Salaam said that police suspect suicide because of a note they have obtained. While they haven't officially ruled it a suicide, at the moment the police have no reason to suspect otherwise.

During the interview, Salaam's mother stated only that the police had “found a note and would share that with us when we get there.”

Salaam's body was found at Eben G. Fine Park at around 9:00 PM local time. The University of Colorado legend made his home in townpost-retirement. His body was discovered in the parking lot.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.
