Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden didn't have much injury information when he spoke to reporters Monday. The third-year head coach only had news about the Redskins backup tight end position.
#Redskins will place TE Niles Paul on IR with a shoulder injury, Gruden says.

“The only injury of note that I’m going to talk about today is Niles Paul is going on IR with his shoulder," said Gruden. "And then we started Derek Carrier back to practice. Other than that we’ll do the injuries on Wednesday.”
When Gruden was asked if Paul would in fact need surgery he said, “Yeah, it’s a labrum issue. So it is surgery, yes.”
The Redskins do have the luxury of having both Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis, although Reed has had his own set of issues in regards to injuries.

It's good to hear that Derek Carrier has started practicing. He hasn't seen any action since being placed on the injured reserve last season after tearing his ACL and MCL in his left knee. Carrier looked good in Washington's system before suffering the injury, catching 17 balls for 141 yards and one touchdown.
