New York City FC will make a trip to BBVA Compass Stadium for the first time in club history, and they will do it as a playoff team for the first time in the club's history after clinching a postseason berth last week.

NYCFC tweeted out their team pride after the impressive feat.

It’s certainly a favorable matchup for Patrick Vieira’s team, as they will travel to Houston with a playoff berth secured, but they’ll also face the team that has the fewest home wins in MLS this year. It bodes well for New York, as they have the most road wins in the league this year with six.

Aside from looking to get the win, New York City FC will try to take sole possession of the top spot in the Eastern Conference so they’re thinking about the bigger picture. They are currently on a three-way tie atop with Toronto FC and the New York Red Bulls. NYCFC has 48 points and three matches remaining, same as NYRB while TFC has four games left on their calendar.

It will also be a big game for David Villa. The Spaniard has 19 goals this season, and he’s one strike off the MLS Golden Boot lead. NYRB’s Bradley Wright-Phillips has 20 goals in 2016. The last three games will be decisive to see which players ends the campaign as the league’s top scorer.

Villa, Andrea Pirlo and company will try to end the regular season on a high note. Considering they don’t play until October 16 due to the upcoming international break, a win is a must for New York. Will they be able to come through when they need it the most?
