Week 26 in MLS only had six matches, but there were enough quality goals to assemble a new edition of our weekly ranking. Some of the goals scored this weekend were spectacular, and one can even be considered as one of the top goals during the current season.
Here are the five best goals during the last week in MLS.
5. FC Dallas vs Portland Timbers: Walker Zimmerman (DAL, 53')
Mauro Diaz was a true difference maker for FC Dallas this weekend against the Portland Timbers, scoring a goal and assisting on another one during the club's 3-1 win. His assist was incredibly accurate, as he lobbed a ball into the box that was nodded home by Walker Zimmerman. The defender rose above everyone else and headed the ball home past the keeper who couldn't do anything to stop the effort. A great pass for a great goal.
4. New England Revolution vs Colorado Rapids: Chris Tierney (NE, 49')
The New England Revolution were going through a goal-scoring drought that lasted more than 400 minutes, but they ended the skid in a big way after they defeated the Colorado Rapids 2-0. New England's second goal was a nice passing sequence that left Chris Tierney all alone in front of the goalkeeper. The midfielder simply tapped the ball home with a classy finish.
3. Los Angeles Galaxy vs Columbus Crew: Giovani dos Santos (LA, 82')
The Los Angeles Galaxy scored two outstanding goals this week, the first by Giovani dos Santos. The Mexican starlet evidenced his class with a great goal, finalizing a counter-attack with a chipped shot over the goalkeeper. It was Los Angeles' second goal in a tough encounter against the Columbus Crew.
2. Chicago Fire vs Philadelphia Union: Arturo Álvarez (CHI, 90')
The Chicago Fire have been one of the best teams in MLS over the past month, and they still have a decent chance to make the playoffs if they continue to play like they have in the last few matches. This time they defeated the Philadelphia Union by a convincing 3-0 score, and the final goal was a great strike from Arturo Alvarez. The midfielder left a defender behind with a step over and placed a shot near the far post of the keeper who didn't have a chance to react.
1. Los Angeles Galaxy vs Columbus Crew: Baggio Husidic (LA, 78')
The best goal of the week was scored by Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Baggio Husidic. In fact, it could be one of the best goals all season long. After receiving a pass from the left side of the pitch, Husidic blasted an absolute bomb that went straight into the upper corner despite the keeper's attempt to block the shot. It was undoubtedly the best goal of the week.
