Remember last season when Royals fans almost got Omar Infante to start the All-Star game last season? He was leading the All-Star voting until the final results were announced, when he was passed by Jose Altuve.

This year, Royals fans can actually be proud of the player at second base. Whit Merrifield has been great this season and he is only a rookie.

Quite frankly, he has made a claim to finish the year as Rookie of the Year. He is currently hitting .320 this season, with an OPS of .797 as well.

So far this season, Merrifield has been exactly what the Royals look for in a baseball player. He has been extremely clutch in situations with runners in scoring position and two outs. His average is .429 in those situations, which is the bread and butter of the Royals' offense.

He has also been a great fielder for the Royals this season, without an error this season while playing at second base. His only error this season came from a game at third base. His versatility is also something that is very useful to the Royals. Along with second and third base, he has also played in right and left field this season

He also has a WAR of 1.5, which is third on the team this season. He has immense value for this team and has been one of the best rookies this season.

Possibly even award-winning.
